The Douglas Youth Football and Cheer League will be having their annual public meeting on Wednesday January 18th at The Warehouse at 6 p.m.

The meeting is to present the current condition of the league including finances and equipment assets. It is also the time allowed for new volunteers to express interest in serving on the 2012 Board if and when openings become available. The board will also be listening to any concerns regarding last season and for the new season. It is important to address issues early prior to starting registration.

Registration for this year’s football and cheer will start Feb. 1, 2012. There will be some changes in the price structure compared to previous years. All changes will not be known until after the annual board meeting.

Current League President Ken Nelson said there are a couple items that will change and one being that all football jerseys will be added in the price of registration and will belong to the player. The plan is for the jerseys to have Chargers on the front and the players name on the back with the current playing year also signified.

The other is that early registration is critical due to the fact the teams will have a maximum of 35 players. Players will be determined on a first come basis.

Nelson said the league does have a two team possibility in any division if by June 30 they have 60 players in any given division registered. If the league had 60 players in one division each child would be drafted one at a time without consideration of siblings or other.

For the year 2011 the league only had a maximum of 50 players in the 7 to 9 year old division. Based on the new guidelines 15 players would not have been able to play so it is extremely important to register your child as soon as possible after Feb. 1 to avoid the possibility of not playing in 2012.

As soon as registration opens this year each child that participated in the program in 2011 will be given a call to let them know.

“We will also be advertising in Dispatch and on KDAP Radio,” Nelson said
